Napoléon Alexandre Comeau (1846-1923), an Acadian who left his name to the town of Baie-Comeau, was an important figure in the history of the North-Shore. His most distinguished qualities were his very varied abilities and knowledge and his profoundly humain personality. He was known as a doctor, a rescuer and a naturalist. On a area of several hundred kilometers, Comeau was the only one who had medical knowledge. In 1886, he carried out a famous rescue operation on the ice floes of the Saint Lawrence River, which feat bestowed the admiration of many organizations upon him.
